Kagehime is certainly different. I skimmed through the first episode and read comments about it. The first episode had a lot of parodies in it of live-action movies, etc. It's not really my type of show, but I hope it's more of your type of show Rob.

T-Man, I don't see Bakuman on your list. Did you drop it?

I only skimmed the first episode and read the first four chapters of the manga. It seemed kind of interesting, but wasn't  along my line of interests so I wasn't planning on watching the anime. Bakuman is a very long manga (translated up to chapter 106 I think)

I've never been much into creative or artistic main theme storylines whether it be anime or live action movies. I think it's because it goes so completely against my personality. I don't mind stories like that where it's not the main theme or drive of the show, but when it is I'm rarely into it. Movies about Ray Charles or Johnny Cash are fine because the main story was not about their creative process, but about their life. Movies I have no interest in are like My Left Foot, Fame or All That Jazz where the main story is about the artistic struggle or whatever. So anime I'm not into watching are shows such as Comic Party, Kaleidostar, etc.

There was an anime about high school stage acting that was borderline about the characters and the acting that I can't recall the name of right now. It was borderline with me too.

White Album was fine because it was really about the characters not about the struggle to become a good idol singer. It's a testament to how good Beck was that I was able to watch it for nine episodes. "Struggling to make doujinshi" falls into the "creative arts struggle" theme of which I'm not much into. I could watch a little of that, but not for something that goes over the course of an entire series.
