Amagami SS ep 8:

the most intriguing scene for me was the cameo of Haruka. I wonder if we are to infer that because she didn't end up with the protagonist in this timeline, she ends up with her female friend.

I would assume so. If they didn't make that scene up for the anime, perhaps Junichi spotted Haruka and her friend doing that. Might have had a CG picture of that in the game somewhere. Or maybe they didn't and  just decided to show how it would have looked like here. Maybe they pulled that scene out of her own story due to lack of time.

Sometimes it's interesting to see how the games handle the awkwardness that comes from going out with one girl while the other girls he knows is still hanging around. Often the game writer avoids dealing with the situation by making the other girls completely disappear from the story. Sometimes the girl that he would have been closest to ends up going away on a family or to college to get them away from there. If the other girl(s) are still there sometimes they just accept the situation and move on, but often it's difficult to believe they would move on so easily as the way they're portrayed because they started the game's story already having some closeness to the main character.

As for Kaoru, one angle that would have made a better story than the one we got would have been a triangle between her and the two guys. That makes me wonder if in another timeline we won't see her end up with the other guy.

Where did the other guy show up again? I forgot. But yeah, that would make sense if they did that. That would be an easy transition to make since at the beginning of Kaoru's story she wasn't thinking of Junichi as any sort of boyfriend type anyway.

OTOH, don't you think these stories are a bit more like real life? I mean, we are all here because we loved MI, but think about it. Stories like MI (and all of Adachi, and KOR, and ...) would be a bit sick in real life. The idea of two people failing to speak to each other about a shared feeling over a period of years seems a lot less likely than that they get together in a couple of months, which is what the Amagami stories are.

Yeah, you're right it is. Kaoru's story definitely was. Haruka was kind of playfully eccentric, but I know what you're saying.

Sae looks to be the only obviously really shy character from the group. So if you like shy girls...Sae might be the one for you!
