If I was female, I think I'd be in love, as long as he wasn't groping me. ) City Hunter reminds me of Magnum PI meets Roger Moore's 007. Does anyone think that characterization is way off? Sorry. - - - I'm making my way through all the City Hunter Specials / movies / OAV's and watching Angel Heart, and it's been quite an interesting experience. Where CH is all fun and stuff, AH is a lot more emotional and a hell of a lot less fun. But that's not a bad thing. Although some of the events in CH are told differently in AH, I like how AH covers things that the CH tv series didn't explain very well. The explanations in AH actually make some of the things in the TV series make more sense! Needless to say, I'm liking what I'm seeing in AH right now. My only problem with it is the terrible animation. It's just so bad.

Posts: 552 05/04/08 17:33:23	And I've finally done it. Finished off all the CH specials, oav's, and movies, which means I have no more CH left except for Angel Heart. City Hunter ~ .357 Magnum - This was quite fun to watch. But the English dub ... oh my god was it bad. The fake German accents were absolutely terrible. x_x; City Hunter ~ Bay City Wars - For some reason I didn't like this at all. Something felt missing despite all the action and funnyness. I just can't put my finger on it. City Hunter ~ The Million Dollar Conspiracy - This was quite fun to watch too. Nothing super special about it, though. City Hunter ~ Secret Service - A good flick. Near the end Ryo looks so pissed I've never seen him that pissed before. And the dub ... oh man. Faux russian (which switched on and off to british and american) accents were terrible, and I didn't like how they changed some dialogue for the English dub during the scene right before Ryo gets pissed. Sure, the Japanese dialogue was cheezy, but that's part of the charm of the show! Just don't watch the dub. City Hunter ~ Goodbye My Sweethart - This one was really fun to watch. It had great action, was funny, and had an excellent feel to it. City Hunter ~ The Death Of Evil Saeba Ryo - This one was pretty good, and like this one because we get to see another story about Ryo's past coming back to haunt him. One word of advice to people who watch this: the only available subbed version of this special / movie is done by ABCD. They took A LOT of "liberties" with the translations, and sometimes were just way off. There's a scene where Kaori says, "Now's not the time to be happy about it!" but it's translated as, "You mean notorious you fool!" Another translation that kinda bugged me for some reason is during a scene where Kaori discovers a bra in Ryo's pocket, and they translated it as "How did that get in there?" when it should've been something like, "Wah? The bra decided to go into my pocket by itself!" If you decide to watch this version, I suggest you ignore the subtitles as much as you can unless you don't understand the Japanese. - - - City Hunter was a great ride. It was funny as heck, entertaining, had great voice acting, and had a FANTASTIC soundtrack. I've already decided to add it to my "all-time favourites list," which includes MI, KOR, and Laputa. It was just really, really fun to watch, and it's sad to realize there ain't anymore City Hunter. - - - Angel Heart ~ 14 - 30 For those people expecting an action-packed City Hunter-like show, these episodes are sorely going to disappoint because there's almost ZERO action. Instead, it's 99% character development, drama, and emotional stuff. But you know what? I totally love it. To me it feels like Angel Heart exists to show the deeper and more emotional aspects of the City Hunter universe that we rarely saw in City Hunter. Glass Heart is a beautiful and great character, especially when she starts acting like her dad. With all that said, I think it's time for some ass-kicking already. Posts: 552 05/05/08 13:10:19	Angel Heart ~ 31 - 45 As much as I enjoyed the touchy-feely stuff, it's somewhat lacking in the kicky-assy department. Luckily, Glass Heart is awesome! (Insert smiley with hearts here). Also, the music is fantastic. It's too bad that I'll probably have to wait a while for the next episode because as good a job Ani-Kraze is doing on the series, their release rate is quite slow. Maybe I should see if anyone else subbed it. In the meanwhile, I can finally get to some other shows in my backlog like the Clannad movie.

Spoiler [+] Liked: - The dango daizoku song! - Nagisa is still so cute - It had a very interesting take on the show, especially the stuff that happen after the tv show. - This movie did a better job than the tv series of focusing on Nagisa and her importance to Tomoya - Movie kind of hints at a Tomoya x Tomoyo pairing! For a minute I almost thought it'd be KKGNE all over again ... - I didn't "like" this or find it "funny," but the first time I heard Nagisa was dead I laughed out loud. - Good to see Tomoya's dad do something worthwhile - The way they tied in the whole "fantasy" stuff was tighter than the tv series Disliked / Hated: - Character designs not as good as the TV series - Tomoya is such a f*cking emo depressed wussy - Where's Kyou??? (Or is it Ryou? I can never remember the names of the twins) As you can see from the spoilers I liked more things than I disliked about it. Again, this version of the clannad story was definitely interesting to watch, and do recommend this to all Clannad fans. As for people who haven't seen Clannad before, I suggest they watch Clannad first before watching this movie because it'll have a greater impact on you.

Despite it being arguably the most boring and mundane movie I've ever seen, I still was thoroughly charmed by it. I actually quite enjoyed the extremely slow pacing of the movie, and it had such a nice nostalgic feel to the movie. The animation was okay, but some of the music was excellent. I don't know if I can recommend this title since it's incredibly slow and just about nothing exciting happens, but for those who want to watch a slow but nostalgic film, give this one a shot. It's done by Studio Ghibli after all, so you can't go wrong there.

I've never seen Piano no Mori, but since I've been clicking many ANN Encyclopedia links lately I can see there's a lot of good shows I haven't seen yet. It's kind of sad how many anime from the mid-90s and earlier are completely forgotten by most anime fans. There'a lot of anime from that era that sound like they'd make good plots if they were remade today. I wonder if "Gauche the Cellist" would be a good watch?: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gauche_the_Cellist Some of these anime would be pretty difficult to locate now. Has anyone ever seen Sukeban Deka? http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=751 I wonder if it would still hold up for me today. Some of that storyline was intentionally campy. I'm giving this show two more episodes before deciding to drop it or continue. - - - - - EDIT ~ 05.13.2008 - - - - - Nodame Cantabile - Special Lesson This was pretty fun to watch. It reminded me all over again why I liked the series. I can't wait for the sequal! KARAS - 01 I had absolutely no bloody idea what the hell I saw, but I didn't care because it was so f*cking awesome! The action was frantic and crazy awesome. Sure, next to nothing was explained, and there was a really weird mix of CG and 2-d animation throughout, but I found it so thoroughly entertaining that I didn't care about any of those things. Reminded me a lot of Nodame because whenever they played a tune, they would show from who was and how they played it. The feeling of it was somewhat Nodamelesque too, without the romance part. I wonder if "Gauche the Cellist" would be a good watch?: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gauche_the_Cellist It's a pretty good Isao Takahata Pre-Ghibli work, it has that music vibe, like more recent works like the mentioned Piano no mori, but with a more Takahata/ World Masterpiece Theater 70's/80's vibe. It's a rather short movie, something in the order of the 60 minutes or so, so it's even more easy to watch. I would definitely recommend it if you're into Isao Takahata, as well as everything where he was involved. Right now I'm on another one of my binges, but this time I'm going for quantity and not quality. I'm just trying to spread my horizons you see. I've got stuff ranging from Popotan and Green Green to Space Runaway Ideon and Zeta Gundam. All this should make for one hell of an interesting watch session. You shouldn't say that. Search always for quality, you may be betrayed for you initial choices later, but the initial goal should be quality always. Ideon and Zeta gundam are both great shows. I'd like to hear you views on them later. WARNING - Before watching Zeta Gundam, you MUST watch the original Gundam and then Gundam ZZ or Gundam Double Zeta if you prefer, from this point it passes onto the Movie Chars Counter Attack, and thus ending a cicle with the same characters. The other Gundams of the Universal Century which were made later, doesn't have the same characters. Master Keaton ~ 03 It's crazy how the show reminds me A LOT of Monster. It's like watching OtoBoku, but with three crossdressers this time round and no annoying squeaky girls with high pitched voices! On the downside, the show is a complete sausage fest. But as long as the guys look "hot" while dressed up as girls, I can stand it. - - - - - EDIT ~ 05.16 - - - - - Lucky Star ~ 02 I've now seen episodes 1, 2, 6, and 7. I've now seen a couple of episodes before the director change, and a couple of episodes after. Although it's made me go "heh" a few times, I still don't understand how this show is supposed to be so funny. I just don't get it. Maybe episodes 3 to 5 (I've got those lined up to watch) will shed some light on that. Green Green ~ 02 It's just as perverted as I remembered it. I usually get quite annoyed at shows with excessive fanservice, but for some reason this show hasn't annoyed me yet. Is it because all the pretty girls are distracting me from how crappy the show is? Or is it because my tastes have gotten so bad that I find this show entertaining? Green Green ~ 03 Futaba is my new favourite girl of the week. Gotta love 'em cute tsundere characters. I think I'll continue with this series to the end, especially since the very last episode is apparently an actual hentai episode (correct me if I'm wrong). I haven't seen a hentai episode in years, so maybe it's time for one. I am, however, already kind of getting tired of the hijinkses of the three perverted dudes. The stuff they do is quickly getting old, and unfortunately I doubt that will change. Popotan ~ 02 - 03 If it wasn't for the fact that 95% of the time this show is insulting to anything with intelligence, Popotan could almost pass for a decent series. The stories in these two episodes were meant to be "heartwarming" and/or "bittersweet," but all the mindless nudity, panty shots, and unfunny stuff completely ruined anything that could remotely be considered redeeming. I will once again drop this show, and this time most likely for good. - - - - - EDIT ~ 05.17 - - - - - Yotsunoha ~ 01 - 02 There's really nothing special about this 2-episode OAV, but it is quite a warm and fuzzy show. There was a nice, relaxing, and nostalgic feel to it, and I actually quite enjoyed watching it. Animation and character designs were decent, and I love the ED theme. On the downside, Sakakibara Yui's voice is borderline intolerable. I know she has one of those high pitched voices that otaku love, but listening to that for over an hour is enough to drive me insane. I also found the back and forth between the past and present a little confusing sometimes because there wasn't a clear indication there was a jump, and so I couldn't initially tell them apart. Finally, I think there was a little too much exploiting of the loli character. We get it. She's a loli. Big whoop. Despite all this, I enjoyed the show overall. Jinki Extend ~ 02 - 03 Aoba is a great character, and she's definitely one of the strong points of the series so far. The pacing of these two episodes is a bit slower than I'd like it to be, but the show itself is interesting enough for me to continue with it until the end. St. Luminous Mission High School ~ 02 - 03 This show is weird. I don't really know what to make of it, but I'm bothered and intrigued enough to want to watch more. Mahoromatic ~ 02 - 03 This was really fun to watch. I can't believe I didn't watch more of this show earlier. This series is definitely on my "must see" list now. Also, I forgot to mention that yet again, Kawasumi Ayako does a great job, this time as Mahoro. Marmalade Boy ~ 02 - 03 Ah. How I've missed mid 90's shoujo shows. These two episodes were pretty funny and I quite enjoyed watching them. I especially like Kouda Mariko (Nayuki from Kanon) doing the voice of Miki. After you watch all of it and whenever you miss it, try Itazura No Kiss which is airing now, don't watch it straight away after you finish Marmalade Boy.. I think we conduct a test to examine the sense of humor between the people that find "Lucky Star" funny the the people that don't. I'd like to understand this divide we have here. I think we are a "anti Lucky Star type of humour" board members here . > Mahoromatic Me too. I think when I watched the first episode, I was in one my incredibly discriminating anti-fanservice moods. But since I'm now in a "anything goes" mood, I quite like it. And I seem to be watching quite a few shows lately with quite a bit of nudity. I'm not sure what to make of that, but I ain't complaining. I guess I was a in a anti-fanservice mood when I watched it. But I watched the whole of it and have to say that some parts were fun, but still I should have done something else with my time back then. Seto no Hanayome ~ 02 - 03 I hate to admit it, but I'm quite enjoying the show so far (I actually LOL'ed a few times). For some reason the show reminds of me Sexy Commando Masaru! I look forward to seeing more. I only watched the first Seto episode, now I might watch the following episodes to see if I'm able to catch that Sexy Commando vibe, a show which I highly enjoyed. The show was pretty easy to watch. It had some laughs and character depth, nice animation, and good character designs. Although it did have a very obvious gay vibe to it, I didn't think it was overly gay. The story and characters are memorable, mostly because the former is absolutely ludicrous and the latter is incredibly unbelievable. I guess I'll put this show under my "enjoyed" list, but I can't bring myself to recommend it to anyone except BL fans. - - - - EDIT - - - - Lucky Star ~ 03 - 05 I've now seen the first 7 episodes of the show, and I STILL don't get why people say it's so funny. I've seen people try to rationalize that by saying it's kinda like Azumanga Daioh in the sense that it has the same kind of humour. I remember quite enjoying AzuDai and laughing a lot, something that I can't say for Lucky Star. Others have said it's like Seinfeld but targetted at the hardcore crowd. I laugh when I watch Seinfeld. I don't when I watch Lucky Star. I get a lot of the references in Lucky Star, but they're not "haha" funny. Some say the charm of the show is in the constant dialogue about little things of no real consequence. Sure, that may be "charming" (read: boring), but how does that translate into being funny? I don't hate Lucky Star. I just think it's incredibly boring and extremely overrated. I don't see myself watching more of this series anytime soon. Last Edited By: nckl 05/18/08 17:21:15.
