I really don't think so. It would be a harder series to pick up too because it has so many episodes. Terence |

Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl licensed by AnimEigo. | #2 | ||
|
I thought I would revive this topic as it appears that AnimEigo is going to pick up at least the first 40 episodes of this. I see that they are offering the
first four episodes for free (plus S&H of 5.00 -- waived if one makes another purchase). I've seen the fansub and it looks good. If the first 40
episodes sell ok, AnimEigo says they'll continue with the series.
Is anyone else interested in purchasing this?

I think I watched the first fifteen to eighteen episodes of Yawara. Unfortunately I kind of lost interest in the series about seven years ago.
How many Yawara episodes are out in region 1 so far? ?^_^? |

The series has been previously unlicensed in the States, so I don't think any were previously out in Region 1. About 55 to 57 episodes were fansubbed
previously, if that's what you mean. That ceased when it was licensed. A total of 124 episodes exist after which are two movie specials. A few of the
episodes are recap episodes, and not likely essential to the plot. The second of the two specials is fansubbed.
If AnimEigo puts this out in 40 episode chunks, that would mean 3 parts of roughly 40 episodes each. I, for one, hope they do not lose heart and stop after offering the first 40 episodes. Under normal circumstances, if I thought there was a chance that Yawara is not completed by AnimEigo, I may be inclined to sit on the sidelines and wait to see whether the anime is completely offered before I make my initial purchase. However, I feel as though I want to support this all the way. Judging by what I've seen of the first few episodes, and the fact that it comes well recommended by more than one reviewer, and the fact that I like sports related anime/manga, I want to see that it gets its due consideration, so I want to support that all the way with my purchase. Hopefully, my purchase, and many like it, influence the decision of AnimEigo to complete the subtitle and offer the entire series. In my communication with AnimEigo on this subject, I also suggested that they take up Adachi's Touch and Hiatari Ryouko. I received a polite reply that they have had this suggested to them before. Translation, I'm not holding my breath on those. Another reason, though, I want to support this title is on the chance that AnimEigo sees it is a profitable and worthy venture, that they can be moved to open for consideration Touch and Hiatari Ryouko.

Hmm...I was under the impression that Yawara got licensed about two and a half years ago, but apparently the official announcement was only back in August
2006. ^^;;
It probably feels a longer time ago because of all that talk before the official date about Yawara being acquired. |

I want to say that Yawara! is at the pre-order stage for anyone who is interested. The more that are on board, the better price and the quicker, I think,
they'll deliver.
I had some further communication with AnimEigo about Yawara! and once again put a plug in for Touch and Hiatari Ryouko. The president of the company, Robert Woodhead (no kidding, that's his name per the website and his email address) replied kindly that I was a sadistic fellow (as apparently their up to their eyeballs with this current offering), but he said so with a (grin) which means I should take his comments tongue-in-cheek. I still am not holding my breath, but if Yawara! project could be successful for AnimEigo, I think that those two projects have a chance at being considered. So I do urge support for AnimEigo in their recent offering. Looks like a great story. The fact that the same mangaka did Monster can only mean a darn good story!

I expect a good story from it but not as good as the later works from Urusawa (Master keaton, Monster, 20th Century boys), but definitely above the average, I
think that Urusawa was still looking for his own identity when he did Yawara, but it must have something that made his later works so famous even if it is in
embryo state.
There are 57 episodes fansubed since some years ago, the project died and no one picked it up again, I'm not familiar how AnimEigo works but it would be good if they released all the 127 episodes. Nevertheless it's great news. |

I was surprised to find out that I had actually watched up to episode 24 of Yawara.
I used to keep notes on the anime that I watched. I wrote down brief summaries of what happened in each episode and included dates that I watched the
episode (and an episode rating). There was less anime to watch seven to ten years ago and fewer places to look up information on them. Some people created
extensive websites about their favorite anime, but most anime never had any websites dedicated them. Writing episode summaries let me know where to look if I
needed to find something again (i.e. where a production artwork scene might be found). The summaries also reminded me of character's names since I had
difficulty looking up character names back then (no ANN Encyclopedia or Wikipedia).
At least it's a LOT less time consuming finding scenes on DVD compared to analog video tape.

Great thing, you made notes from way back. I just started a few years ago and I didn't even noted all the stuff that I watched. It's really helpful.
But you have to find a easy understanding system since the beginning or else it will become a big mess
.
