I can't remember but I'm guessing that Soichiro (the dog) was Soichiro the husbands dog. Only Kyoko named him after his passing. Now if I was to be in her shoes and I named my cat after my dead wife (terrible thought, but to put me in her shoes I'll imagine it) I could definitely see my family and friends becoming very concerned in my mental state (even though they probably are already
, err..ahem). No doubt this created some great comedy in the story, but this is one of the many things about Kyoko that turned me off (Kozue, Godai take Kozue!!). They say a pets personality can be a lot like their owners, so maybe Kyoko saw a bit of Soichiro the husband in Soichiro the dog. But he is after all a dog! I don't doubt Rumiko for writing this in her story because I really enjoyed this confusion at the beginning of the manga, but I'm just looking at it from a mental stand point. And to me this is a pretty odd thing for Kyoko to do. If I was Godai, I'd ask Kyoko to change the name of her dog after they got married so he doesn't have to keep thinking of her first husband every time he calls the dog. A little creepy to me
